Erik Jekabson and Darren Johnston

Trumpeter/Composer Darren Johnston is one of San Francisco's most wide ranging jazz improvisors. Recently profiled in Downbeat magazine as one of the most promising young trumpeters in the country, Johnston is as comfortable playing straight-ahead jazz as he is dealing with more experimental forms. He's performed with Don Byron, and Marcus Shelby and has collaborated with a number of prominant modern dance companies including Robert Moses' Kin, and Kunst-Stoff.
Trumpeter/Composer Erik Jekabson's music draws from many different sources, but remains firmly rooted in the “third-stream” explorative west coast tradition pioneered by Dave Brubeck. Jekabson has toured with John Mayer, Illinois Jacquet, the Woody Herman Big Band and Galactic, and has composed for film and dance projects. His solo album “Intersection” was released in the fall of 2003 by the Fresh Sound/New Talent label.
