Drummer Winard Harper honed his skills as a young musician performing with Betty Carter, Dexter Gordon, and Johnny Griffin. In the 1980's he co-founded the Harper Brothers Quintet, billed by Leonard Feather as "the most brilliant new jazz group of the decade." For the past ten years, Harper has been leading his own dynamic, high-energy sextet.
