Downtown Berkeley BART station is located in the center of downtown and provides free bike parking at the unique "Bikestation". The Downtown Berkeley BART Plaza is frequented by transit riders, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. It provides one of the primary access points to UC Berkeley, and to the residential, commercial, employment, and cultural uses located in Downtown Berkeley. Currently, plans are in development to redesign BART Plaza and create a landmark at the center of Berkeley. While access and the particular needs and activities of users are important, creating a place that supports the cultural, social and economic development goals for Downtown Berkeley will be a priority for the future. The BART Plaza area presents an opportunity to help further the cultural, social and economic development goals for the Downtown area by creating an inviting and attractive public space to a wide variety of users.
